Ayurvedic Fertility and Pregnancy Drink

posted in: Natural Remedies, Recipes | 2

During pregnancy, Ayurveda can be a wonderful complement to the care you are already receiving from your gynecologist. According to Ayurveda, pregnancy is the time to balance the Vata dosha, which is the energy of air and space, which dominates the nervous system.

I want to share with you this wonderfully nutritious ayurvedic drink that can be taken during pregnancy. This drink is also a fertility superfood as it increases your odds of conception. The nutrients in this drink play a vital role in the reproductive system, because what we eat is an important way to get those nutrients in our system.

When we are pregnant, many physical and emotional changes occur during the 9 months. You need to eat Sattvic food. In Ayurveda, when a food is sattvic it means it is pure and fresh. This means avoid leftovers and no processed foods. It is advised to buy organic and non-GMO produce. An expectant mother needs to consume pure and easily digestible foods that nourish the dhatus, or tissues of both her and her baby.

Milk

For making this excellent fertility drink, you need 1 cup of organic milk. If you are allergic to dairy or are lactose intolerant, you can replace milk with almond milk or coconut milk according to your dietary preference. And always please go for organic, unpasteurized and raw milk. In super markets we don’t usually get unpasteurised milk. But it is available in farm shops and health food stores.

In Ayurveda, milk is sattvic and it rejuvenates. It nourishes all 7 tissues, especially Shukra dhatu (reproductive tissue).

Saffron

Saffron controls the blood pressure and it reduces morning sickness which is a common problem among pregnant women. It also prevents mood swings and improves your digestion.

Turmeric Powder

Turmeric balances all the 3 doshas in our body. It is the ultimate spice for detoxification. It also increases your immunity and saves you from catching any cold or flu during pregnancy.

Cardamom Powder

Cardamom is sattvic and it helps to digest the milk. Adding 1 pinch cardamom powder also helps to beat nausea during pregnancy.

Almonds

You need around 5-6 almonds. Almonds nourish all 7 dhatus, especially the reproductive tissue boosting fertility.

Ghee

Ghee is the ultimate fertility food in Ayurveda, as it contains the healthy fats that create the reproductive hormones. It also helps the baby’s brain development. Ghee balances vata dosha, which is dominant during pregnancy.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Organic Milk
  • 1 Pinch Saffron
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 5-6 Almonds
  • 1/2 tsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1 Pinch Cardamom powder

Method

  • First, powder the cardamom in a mortar and pestle. I only use the seeds, but don’t discard the shells. the shells also have a lot of flavor, you can use it when you make make your masala chai.
  • Next, heat the milk in a pan.
  • Add the turmeric powder, cardamom powder and saffron.
  • Then add the ghee to the milk and give it a little stir.
  • Once the milk boils, pour it into a cup and mix in the honey.
  • Chop the almonds then just sprinkle it at the top and enjoy your Ayurvedic milk. You can drink this milk either in the morning or before bed time.

This Ayurvedic fertility and pregnancy drink helps you build strong immunity during pregnancy. It also helps your child’s brain development and it controls your morning sickness during pregnancy. We call it morning sickness, but it stays throughout the day, I had severe nausea during both my pregnancies. This Ayurvedic milk helped me a great deal.
