Hey There, you may be wondering why I am blogging about homemade deodorant in the first place, when you can get deodorants and antiperspirant body sprays everywhere. It is soo easy to buy them. I stopped using the store bought deodorants when I realised how dangerous the deodorants are to our health. But first of all we need to understand what is wrong with these store-bought deodorants.
How store-bought deodorants are dangerous to our health
Well, Triclosan, for example, is a common ingredient in deodorants. Studies indicate that it may disrupt normal thyroid function in your body and alter hormones. It creates hormonal imbalance in your body. We all know how important your hormone balance is. Imbalanced hormones are the main reason for obesity, hair fall, dry skin and a ton of other health issues.
Other common ingredient in deodorant and body spray is aluminum – which is present in some “natural crystal” deodorants and has been classified by an oncologist as a genotoxin and hormone disruptor which creates hormonal imbalance in your body that leads to weight gain and other serious problems.
Deodorants also contain paraben, which again increases estrogen in our body. Excess estrogen creates havoc in your metabolism and your hormonal health.
So a few years ago, when I cleaned my lifestyle to eliminate all the possible toxins, I decided to use natural methods. I started with making my own natural moisturizer which worked great so I decided to swap out my deodorant for something more natural.
Then I went to the health food store and picked up some options, but nothing worked. That’s when I discovered a cheap, non-toxic homemade deodorant solution, that’s incredibly easy to make at home.
Believe me, it works great. It’s been field-tested in the gym and it still holds up even after you have worked out for an hour sweating out in the gym. I even use it when I go on vacation to hot places, 100+ degree heat of summers and proven its worth. Really, it works amazing, trust me!
Coconut Oil or Shea Butter
When I started making this recipe I used coconut oil as the base. However, I’ve found that skin soothing shea butter is a better option because it’s not greasy and absorbs quickly, which is super important if you’re getting dressed in a hurry.
All the organic ingredients that I use in my homemade deodorant are linked at the bottom of this post.

Now, using your fingertips, scoop out a very small amount of deodorant – really, a little goes a long way – and rub it in your underarm area until it’s invisible. The deodorant will absorb quickly and keep you smelling fresh.
Good Luck 🙂
