Thyroid Weight Loss Indian Diet Plan

posted in: Diet Plans, Weight Loss | 3

Here is a Full Day Meal Plan to lose weight for those with hypothyroidism. I had hypothyroidism and I healed it with my lifestyle and a thyroid friendly diet. I still follow the healthy eating plan. This is my typical eating pattern and how I managed my thyroid and lost weight. Hypothyroidism is when thyroid gland is under active.

How I Reversed My Hypothyroid

I believe in the Ayurvedic principle of food is medicine. I’m really excited to share my diet plan that worked for me with all of you. I follow a meal plan that contains ingredients that will help to heal thyroid gland. This is more of my experience with thyroid and how I reversed it.

This is what I eat in a typical day.

6 AM: Honey Ginger Lemonade

I drink my Honey Ginger Lemonade first thing in the morning. It’s super effective in kick starting your sluggish metabolism. The combination of these ingredients work great to restore the moisture in skin too. Dry skin is one of the main side effects of hypothyroid.

7:30 AM – Breakfast : Vegetable Oats Kichdi

Including Oats in your everyday diet will accelerate your weight loss. It’s full of antioxidants and fiber, will leave your digestive system happy and healthy too. This Vegetable Oats Kichdi is a perfect blend of Thyroid stimulating spices that will be healing.

11 AM – Mid Morning Snack : Indian Immunity & Wellness Tea & Handful of Walnuts and Dates

When our thyroid gland is underactive, our immunity takes the first hit. We tend to catch cold and flu quite often. This Traditional Immunity Chai helped me ward off the colds by increasing my immunity. It also boosts your metabolism and helps you shed the extra flab.

1 PM – Lunch : Hand Pounded Rice with Lauki Gravy and Sprouts Cucumber Salad

We usually think that we can’t go wrong with vegetables, it isn’t true for people who suffer from hypothyroidism. One should be cautious while selecting vegetables and go for the ones that have a high metabolic rate.

Vegetables like Bottle gourd, Bitter gourd, Ridge gourd, French beans are low in calories and rich in fibre. They are easy to digest. Stay away from cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli because they can block the thyroid’s ability to absorb iodine and lead to fluctuations in the hormone level.

Lauki / Bottle Gourd Curry makes a perfect choice for a delicious, thyroid friendly lunch.

4 PM: Berry and Banana Parfait

I love parfaits, they are so delicious and quite simple to assemble on a busy evening after coming back from work. I always have a jar of healthy homemade granola sitting in my kitchen counter. I just mix a couple of spoons of granola with yoghurt, berries, banana and a tsp of honey.. voila… super delicious parfait is ready to save my evening 🙂

6:30 PM: Apple Cider Vinegar

When I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I started concentrating on my gut health. I increased the intake of my natural probiotics. I usually take a tbsp of apple cider vinegar mixed in a glass of water.

7 PM: Dinner – Fermented Millet Dosa/Crepes

My weight loss dinner consists of millets for it’s abundant level of nutrients. I often take finger millet dosa for dinner. Finger millet is really high in Iron which is quite important if you want to lose weight in a safe way without destroying your health. I ferment the batter so it gets it’s probiotics. This is a great meal for those with Hashimotos too because of its good quality probiotics.

To Make The Finger Millet Dosa Batter:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Whole Finger Millet
  • 1/2 Cup Urad Dal / Black Gram

Method:

  • Soak both finger millet and urad dal overnight
  • In the morning drain the water and blend them adding a little bit of water
  • The consistency what you are expecting is the same as pancake batter
  • Mix some salt and leave the batter in a warm place for 8 to 12 hours for it to ferment
  • Once the batter is fermented, you can make dosa’s same as you make pancakes
  • Enjoy it with chutney or pickle

What I need to emphasise is that, vitamin D and thyroid are very closely related. Vitamin D deficiency has almost the same symptoms as thyroid symptoms. Improving your Vitamin D level improves the thyroid symptom like fatigue and weight gain. You can take supplements for Vitamin D3. But the simplest way to get vitamin D is going out in sunlight for a minimum of 30 mins every day.

I hope you’ve got something informative from my thyroid weight loss diet plan. I wish you a speedy recovery from thyroid. If I can reverse hypothyroidism, you can too. Best of luck!!
